Paper Daisy Seeds (Xerochrysum bracteatum)
Paper Daisy, also known as Strawflower, is a hardy annual prized for its papery, long-lasting blooms in bright, vibrant colors. Flowers are excellent for fresh arrangements and retain color beautifully when dried. Ideal for garden beds, borders, and cut-flower gardens.
Plant Details
• Germination: 7–14 days
• Bloom time: 10–12 weeks from seed
• Height: 24–36 inches (60–90 cm)
• Life cycle: Annual
• Cut & dried flower use: Yes
Planting Instructions
Sow seeds indoors 4–6 weeks before the last frost or direct sow outdoors after frost danger has passed. Press seeds lightly into the soil surface; do not bury deeply, as light aids germination. Keep soil evenly moist until seedlings emerge. Space plants 10–12 inches apart.
Light & Soil Requirements
Grows best in full sun. Prefers well-draining soil and tolerates poor, sandy soils. Avoid heavy, wet conditions.
Watering & Care
Water regularly while plants establish. Once mature, Paper Daisy is drought tolerant and prefers drier soil. Overwatering and excessive fertilizer may reduce flowering. Deadhead to promote continuous blooms or allow flowers to fully open for drying.
Notes
Harvest flowers just before fully open for best drying results. Plants perform best in warm, dry climates.
