How to Grow & Care for Viola “Sorbet Series”
Viola Sorbet Series is a compact, early-blooming viola known for its small flowers, excellent cold tolerance, and long blooming season. It is ideal for pots, borders, garden beds, and cool-climate displays.
Location & Soil:
Sorbet violas grow best in cool conditions with morning sun or light shade. They prefer loose, well-drained soil that is slightly rich but can still perform well in average garden soil.
When to Plant:
Sow seeds from late summer to early fall for winter–spring flowering, or sow in late winter for a spring display. In hot climates, avoid sowing during peak summer heat.
How to Sow:
Sow seeds shallowly, covering them with only a very thin layer of soil or simply pressing them onto the surface. Keep the soil moist until germination, which usually takes 7–14 days. Once seedlings develop true leaves, transplant them with 15–20 cm spacing.
Watering:
Keep the soil slightly moist but never waterlogged. Watering in the morning helps prevent fungal issues. During hot weather, water more frequently because violas dislike prolonged dryness.
Care & Maintenance:
Regularly remove spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering. Feed with a balanced, diluted fertilizer every 2–3 weeks for healthy growth. Provide light shade during hot days to prevent heat stress.
Growth & Flowering:
Sorbet Series blooms very early, often flowering while still small. Plants grow about 15–20 cm tall and produce abundant small flowers in a wide range of colors through cool seasons.
Uses:
Perfect for containers, borders, hanging baskets, winter gardens, and early spring displays. Their flowers also attract bees and butterflies.
