How to Grow Pink Lemonade Blueberry Plants:
Pink Lemonade is a unique rabbiteye-type blueberry that produces pink berries and grows well in warm to moderate climates. Plant in early spring (or fall in mild-winter areas) so roots establish before heat or hard cold. Choose a spot with full sun (minimum 6 hours; 8+ is better) and excellent drainage. Blueberries require acidic soil, pH about 4.5–5.5—this is non-negotiable for good growth. If your soil isn’t naturally acidic, grow in raised beds or large containers using an acid-loving mix (peat/coco + pine bark + perlite) and/or amend garden soil with elemental sulfur well before planting. Dig a wide hole twice as wide as the root ball, set the plant at the same depth (or slightly higher if soil is heavy), backfill with acidic organic matter, and water deeply. Space plants about 1.2–1.5 m (4–5 ft) apart. Pink Lemonade can self-pollinate but fruits much better with a second rabbiteye blueberry nearby, so if possible plant another variety that blooms at a similar time.
How to Care for Pink Lemonade Blueberries:
Keep soil evenly moist—blueberries have shallow roots and hate drying out, but they also hate soggy feet. Water deeply 1–2 times per week, more in heat, aiming for consistently damp soil. Mulch 5–8 cm (2–3 in) thick with pine bark/needles or shredded leaves to hold moisture, keep roots cool, and maintain acidity; keep mulch a few cm away from the stem. Fertilize lightly with an acid-lover fertilizer (azalea/camellia/blueberry type): start after new growth begins, then feed small amounts every 4–6 weeks through mid-summer; avoid heavy nitrogen late season. Prune in late winter: remove dead/weak wood, thin crowded stems, and shape for airflow; in the first 1–2 years, pinch off most flowers so the plant builds a strong root system. Net plants if birds are a problem. Watch for chlorosis (yellow leaves with green veins)—that usually means pH is too high or iron is locked up; fix by acidifying soil and using chelated iron if needed. Pink Lemonade is fairly heat tolerant once established, but in very hot zones, a little afternoon shade and extra mulch/water keeps berries sweet and plants happy.
