Tendergreen Burpless Cucumber Seeds (Cucumis sativus) produce vigorous, productive vines bearing slender, light-to-dark green cucumbers with thin skin, tender flesh, and small white spines. The mild, sweet fruits are known for their crisp texture and minimal bitterness. Cucumbers typically grow 7–12 inches long, but they have the best flavor and tenderness when harvested at approximately 6–8 inches. This versatile heirloom variety is excellent for fresh salads, sandwiches, snacking, and pickling when harvested young.

Planting Season

Best planted in: Late Spring & Early Summer (Warm-Season Crop)

Sow after all danger of frost has passed and the soil temperature has reached at least 65–70°F (18–21°C). Cucumbers are sensitive to frost and cold soil, so planting should be delayed until both daytime and nighttime temperatures are consistently warm.

How to Grow Tendergreen Burpless Cucumber Seeds

Sow seeds directly outdoors after the final frost or start them indoors approximately 3–4 weeks before transplanting.

When starting indoors, use biodegradable pots or individual cells to minimize root disturbance.

Choose a location receiving at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight each day.

Grow in fertile, loose, well-drained soil enriched with compost or well-aged organic matter.

Sow seeds approximately ½–1 inch deep.

For row planting, space seeds 12–18 inches apart, with rows approximately 4–5 feet apart.

Alternatively, plant 3–4 seeds per hill and space hills approximately 4–6 feet apart.

Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during germination.

Maintain soil temperatures between 70–90°F (21–32°C) for the best germination results.

Seeds typically germinate within approximately 6–10 days under warm conditions.

Thin seedlings to the strongest plant at the recommended spacing once they have developed their first true leaves.

Transplant indoor-grown seedlings carefully after the soil has warmed, avoiding damage to their sensitive roots.

How to Care for Tendergreen Burpless Cucumber Plants

Water deeply and consistently, providing approximately 1–2 inches of water per week depending on rainfall, temperature, and soil conditions.

Maintain even soil moisture during flowering and fruit development. Irregular watering can cause misshapen or bitter cucumbers.

Water near the base of the plants with drip irrigation or a soaker hose to keep the foliage dry and reduce the risk of fungal disease.

Prepare the planting area with compost and apply a balanced fertilizer according to soil needs.

Avoid excessive nitrogen fertilizer, which can encourage heavy vine growth while reducing flowering and fruit production.

Mulch around established plants to conserve moisture, suppress weeds, regulate soil temperature, and protect their shallow roots.

Allow the vines to spread along the ground or train them onto a sturdy 3–4-foot trellis. Trellising improves airflow, keeps the fruits clean, and can help produce straighter cucumbers.

Remove protective row covers once flowering begins so bees and other pollinators can reach the flowers.

Harvest fruits when they are firm, green, and approximately 6–8 inches long for the sweetest flavor and most tender texture.

Pick cucumbers every one or two days during peak production. Regular harvesting encourages the plants to continue flowering and producing new fruits.

Small, immature fruits can also be harvested for pickling.

Tendergreen Burpless Cucumbers typically mature within approximately 55–65 days after sowing, depending on climate and growing conditions.
