Purple Shine is a hybrid eggplant known for glossy purple, long fruits and strong vigor, but like all eggplants it needs warmth. Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before your last frost or before your cool season ends. Sow seeds about 0.5 cm (¼ in) deep in seed-starting mix, keep evenly moist, and maintain warm soil temperatures around 25–30°C (77–86°F); germination usually takes 7–14 days. As soon as seedlings emerge, give very bright light 12–16 hours a day to prevent stretching. When plants have 2–3 true leaves, pot up into larger containers so roots develop well. Harden off for 7–10 days before transplanting outdoors. Transplant only when nights stay warm (consistently above ~18–20°C / 65–68°F) and soil is warm. Plant in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil, spacing 45–60 cm (18–24 in) apart. Stake or cage at planting time because hybrid plants set heavy fruits.
