Best started about two months before your last frost in pots. Place seed on surface of soil and lightly cover with sand or vermiculite. Once to a height of 2", and after your last freeze, transplant to your garden. You can direct seed these two weeks before your last frost. As above you want to lightly cover them a light dusting of peat or vermiculite in your garden bed.
Cantebury bells are technically biennials and if direct sown in spring will take one year to flower. If started early enough in pots, and then transplanted in spring, they can flower in the first year.
